Wilson Nurseries & Plant Co.

Deeply rooted in the natural and green, Wilson Nurseries & Plant Co. has cultivated a love of plants & gardening for more than 40 years, with a time-honored tradition of growing. The first set of doors were opened in rural Frankfort in 1979, with landscaping and a production nursery laying the foundation.

Good business foresight led Charlie Wilson to re-plant in a more visible location before he and his wife, Jennifer, took their passion to the next level and began creating the footprint of a new nursery with modern appeal.

Anchored by the glass conservatory greenhouse, it is in the the 5 acres of greenhouses that the true heart of the flagship location resides. It is here that the team of growers focus their energies, time and talents on giving a start to the Wilson’s signature locally-grown plants for each season.

Sage Garden Cafe sprouted up 10 years ago, in the horticultural bones of the original garden center, encouraged by a growing interest from plant enthusiasts looking for a fresh approach to food in Frankfort. Plants and flowers reinforce the heritage of the space and the menu is centered around a garden to table concept, keeping true to it’s roots.

The groundwork was laid 24 years ago for the Lexington counterpart of Wilson Nurseries. Today, this urban location is a landscape outlet and plant shop for city dwellers to keep their hands in the dirt.

Last year, the addition of Kentucky’s largest butterfly house on the grounds of Wilson Nurseries brought in flora & fauna fanatics to get up close and personal with pollinators & the plants they love. An aspiration for Jennifer and her daughters, Mary Catherine & Ella for several years, this experiential native butterfly exhibit & gardens is the latest ambitious undertaking, but definitely not the last of entrepreneurial efforts to emerge under the women- owned and operated umbrella of Wilson Nurseries & Plant Co.
